I started using AI writing generators and AI writing software in April of 2021. Within 24 hours, I knew I’d never write without one again.
After Grammarly logged me for –– no exaggeration –– millions of words per year for 5+ years of writing, I was ready to give my fingers a rest. Jasper.AI and GoCopy.AI were my gateway drugs to the AI writing generator universe.
At the time, I started using ai writing software, I was working with 5 different clients over a broad range of industries. I was writing a lot.
During this time, I was diligently tracking every minute I logged for each client using Toggl.com.
In the first week I started using Jasper and GoCopy, I was blown away. Even being a total beginner in using the software, in the first week, I shaved off 30% my total writing time.

Jasper.AI Pricing
Jasper offers flexible pricing strategies depending on what your writing needs are. They recommend boss mode for long-form writing. As I write this (mid-2022) starter plans start around $49 for 35,000 words per month and Boss Mode starts around $99 for 100,000 words per month.
Jasper.AI Overview
I find very few holes in Jasper.AI. I was lucky enough to get grandfathered into a Boss Mode plan that includes unlimited words per month. Even though I haven’t taken full advantage of ripping through 100,000 AI words per month like I should be –– I plan on doing that in the near future.
The only drawback I’ve heard from other writers is the pricing. You’ll notice that some of the other ai writing generators and software mentioned in this article have pricing starting around the $29/month price point.
I’ll say that Jasper is expensive, but it’s worth every penny. Every month it keeps getting better.

Copy.AI
Copy.AI is an AI writing software that generates short and long-form content from sales copy and cold email headlines to social posts, blog outlines, and full paragraphs of blog content as well.
Copy.AI has great feedback from the writing community on how user-friendly it is. It’s another great AI writing software option for new freelance writers who are just getting a feel for how to use AI writing generator software, and seasoned writers as well.

Rytr.me is another great option for AI writing generators.
Like Jasper, it is also making a name for itself in the writing community, with over 1,000 positive reviews on AppSumo Alone. I was lucky enough to find it through AppSumo for $39 for lifetime access. Huge win!
That plan included 50,000 characters per month, which is more than enough for most new freelance writers.
In 4-5 hours of testing this software, I was so impressed I actually bought another $ 39-lifetime membership for it, just in case I needed more words or decide to start a small agency of my own.

I’ve mostly used WriterZen for keyword research and their SEO suite features, so I can’t speak much to the AI writing software features of it. But I will say they have rock-star reviews, and the writing community seems to love it. They also have a super-engaged CEO, support team, and Facebook group.

Peppertype.AI started as a great tool for short-form content like ad copy, social posts, email copy, blog outline headers, etc. Since then, they’ve integrated a long-form editor and a lot of other cool, helpful, and standard features you see across a lot of the other ai writing platforms.

Full disclosure: I only tested WordHero for about a week. The AI writing generator was a little slow, but the outputs were fairly good. I’m sure they have improved that functionality since then.

Content Forge is yet another AI writing generator that came onto my radar via AppSumo. They specialize in e-commerce content, blog content, ad copy, website content, and marketing copy. It sounds like they may have some kind of API integration with Google Docs as well.

How to Choose an AI Writing Generator
Now that you have the list, what’s next? My thoughts here are “why lock yourself into one before you try them all?”
Try Them Out
Most, if not all, of these, ai writing software have some sort of free trial or free plan that offers a minimum amount of words. Test drive one for a week to a full month, see how you like it, rinse and repeat until you find the one you like best.
Consider Your Specialty or Niche
Make sure the type of AI writing generator you choose has the features you need for the type of writing you’re doing (long form, short form, content writing, blog writing, sales copy, email copy, creative writing, etc.).
Check out the Features
Some of these ai writing software are better for short-form, and others are better for long-form. Some are really powerful in some features and lacking in others. Some have 40+ different use cases (hello Jasper) and others do 5-10 really well.
Be sure you’re getting the kinds of features and use cases you need for the type of writing you do as well as your industry.
User Interface
The user interface is a huge draw for me. An AI writing generator can provide great content and outputs, but if the user interface and experience are clunky or unreliable –– count me out.
If you’re brand new to writing or freelance writing, choose an ai writing software with a user interface that makes sense to you and is enjoyable to use.
Quality Outputs
And last, but certainly not least, choose the ai writing generator that gives you the best ai writing outputs. I’ve used some of these that have taken 10+ tries to get the content or copy where I want it.
For me so far, Jasper and Rytr.me tend to be the ones that consistently generate the best content and copy, the fastest.
